Ruby is red corundum — the same mineral as sapphire, coloured by chromium. Everything above 1 carat in strong colour is genuinely rare, which is why the price curve is so steep.

We stock Ceylon ruby alongside Madagascan material, and we mark treatment status on every stone. Unheated ruby with strong saturation is the top of the market; heated stones of the same colour are a fraction of the price and just as durable.
