Sapphire
Sapphire is corundum — the same mineral as ruby — and Sri Lanka produces it in more colours than anywhere else on earth. Blue, pink, purple, yellow, green, white, orange, bi-colour and the rare padparadscha all come out of the same island.
We buy rough at the pit in Ratnapura and Elahera and cut in our own workshop in Colombo. Where a stone has been heat treated we say so; where it is unheated we say that too, and price it accordingly.
